Edouard von Herberstein is a Partner at HSCM Bermuda Management Company with primary responsibilities as Chief Underwriting Officer for the Re/Insurance Strategy.
Most recently, Mr. von Herberstein was the Deputy Active Underwriter at Ariel Re Syndicate 1910 at Lloyd’s of London. In 2013, Goldman Sachs acquired Ariel Re, a private equity owned reinsurer in Bermuda. Mr. von Herberstein was instrumental in the successful integration of the Goldman and Ariel Re reinsurance portfolios and teams. Mr. von Herberstein established, managed, and underwrote the Lutine Alternative Consortium. It is the only Lloyd’s property reinsurance consortium, open to all brokers, solely lead by Syndicate 1910, having 8 supporting syndicates, offering up to $100 million of property and specialty structured reinsurance capacity for large reinsurance buyers worldwide.
Prior to that, Mr. von Herberstein was Executive Director of the Goldman Sachs Reinsurance Group Syndicate (Securities Division) where he managed the property reinsurance portfolio and underwrote $80 million of annual premiums.
Mr. von Herberstein previously worked as co-head of the property reinsurance desk underwriting the US and International markets at Glacier Re in Switzerland and worked at Wellington Syndicate 2020 in Lloyd’s as a senior pricing analyst for the Property reinsurance desk. Mr. von Herberstein began his career as a Research Analyst and Modeler at ICAT Managers in Boulder, CO.
Mr. von Herberstein graduated from Metropolitan State University with a Bachelor of Science and holds a Master of Science in Environmental Studies from the University of Colorado Boulder. Mr. von Herberstein has received NCAA All American distinctions for both Academic and Athletics results in swimming.
